This term, Year 3 have been exploring the powerful and moving story Coming to England by Dame Floella Benjamin, as part of their Black History Month celebrations. The book tells the true story of Floella’s journey from Trinidad to England as a young girl, and the challenges her family faced as they began a new life in a different country.

Through this inspiring tale of courage, determination and belonging, the children have gained a deeper understanding of resilience and the importance of embracing diversity. The story has sparked thoughtful discussions in class, helping pupils reflect on what it means to adapt to change, overcome adversity, and remain hopeful in the face of uncertainty.

Year 3 have shown great empathy and curiosity throughout their learning, and it has been wonderful to see them connect with Floella’s story in such a meaningful way.
