Pupil Leadership at Bradshaw Primary School

At Bradshaw Primary School, we encourage and celebrate young leaders as positive role models within our school community.

Children are appointed to positions of responsibility in a variety of ways, as we support them to recognise both their own potential and that of their peers. For some roles, pupils prepare and deliver speeches to their classmates and are voted for by their peers. In other cases, staff identify pupils’ particular strengths, subject knowledge, and ability to lead and inspire others.

Each pupil leadership team is given opportunities to propose and lead initiatives on behalf of their peers and to contribute to wider school life. This includes involvement in strategic processes such as the School Improvement Plan, meetings with governors, and staff appointments where appropriate.

The aims of effective pupil leadership at Bradshaw Primary School are to help children to:

  • enjoy and feel empowered by their education;
  • feel that their views and needs are listened to and valued;
  • share their thoughts, feelings and opinions about matters that affect them;
  • play an active role in decision-making and improving their school;
  • develop important life skills such as teamwork, responsibility and communication.

School Council

Our School Councillors are voted for and elected by their peers. They work closely with Mrs Hill and Mrs Knowles to represent the views of pupils and share ideas about life at Bradshaw Primary School.

We greatly value pupil voice and welcome the ideas of our children in how we can best support their learning and wellbeing. The School Council aims to meet at least once a month.

Curriculum Ambassadors

Our Curriculum Ambassadors are enthusiastic, knowledgeable pupils who are passionate about their subjects. They work alongside curriculum leaders to help shape the curriculum and ensure rich and inclusive enrichment opportunities for all children.

They support pupil voice activities, take part in subject learning walks, meet with governors, and champion their subjects across all key stages.

Play Leaders

Children’s right to play is a key part of our values and ethos at Bradshaw Primary School. Play Leaders are chosen for their strong communication skills and teamwork. They model positive play, support interactions between different groups of children, and help younger pupils to play cooperatively and inclusively.

Play Leaders act as role models for sport and healthy living and promote active break times and lunchtimes across the school. They receive training and are supported by staff to encourage all children to join in.

Prefects

Each term, a third of our Year 6 pupils take on the role of Prefect. Prefects are positive role models who support staff, help at key school events, and lead by example in their behaviour and attitudes.

They welcome parents and visitors to the school and demonstrate the manners and conduct we value at Bradshaw Primary School. All Year 6 pupils have the opportunity to serve as a Prefect during the school year.

Eco Team

Our Eco Team works hard to raise awareness of environmental issues across the school. These enthusiastic environmental champions share fantastic ideas and ways to help to look after our environment.
