Health and Wellbeing
At Bradshaw Primary School, children’s health and wellbeing are central to everything we do. We are committed to supporting pupils’ physical, emotional and mental wellbeing, ensuring they feel safe, happy and ready to learn.
Our approach helps children to develop resilience, confidence and the skills they need to manage challenges both in and out of school.
Promoting Emotional Wellbeing
We support children’s emotional health by:
- Teaching emotional literacy and self-regulation strategies
- Encouraging children to talk about their feelings and worries
- Providing trusted adults who listen and support
- Creating calm, consistent and nurturing learning environments
Children are encouraged to understand their emotions and develop independence in managing them.
Early Years – Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED)
In the Early Years, Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED) is a key focus. Children are supported to:
- Build positive and respectful relationships
- Manage friendships, conflict and emotions with adult support
- Develop resilience and perseverance
- Understand routines, rules and expectations
- Manage their own physical needs and respect others’ privacy
- Adults carefully model emotional language and behaviours to support children in becoming confident and independent.
Whole-School Wellbeing Support
We use a range of approaches to support wellbeing, including:
- PSHE lessons and assemblies
- MyHappyMind lessons
- Trauma-informed practice
- Self-regulation strategies
- Play-based and therapeutic support where appropriate
- Mental health and wellbeing programmes
Our PSHE curriculum supports children in making healthy choices, staying safe and building positive relationships.
Physical Health and Healthy Lifestyles
- We promote healthy lifestyles through:
- High-quality PE lessons
- Active play and outdoor learning
- Education about healthy eating and physical wellbeing
- Encouraging positive habits that support lifelong health
Keeping Children Safe
Children’s wellbeing is closely linked to feeling safe. We ensure pupils know:
- Who to go to if they need help
- How to stay safe online and in the community
- How to recognise and manage risks
Wellbeing Across School Life
Health and wellbeing are embedded across daily school life, including:
- School values and ethos
- Assemblies and class discussions
- Extra-curricular activities and enrichment opportunities
Through a strong whole-school approach, we aim to ensure that every child at Bradshaw Primary School feels supported, confident and ready to thrive.
