World Book Day Celebrations in Reception

Reception enjoyed a vibrant and joyful World Book Day, arriving at school dressed in an array of imaginative and colourful costumes. The children’s enthusiasm was clear to see as they proudly shared who they had come as for the day. Among the wonderful characters were a penguin, several Spider‑Men, Little Bo Peep, Smoos, Willy Wonkas, a tiger, a wolf, Alice in Wonderland, and even Rumi from K‑Pop!
The celebrations began with a whole‑school World Book Day parade. Reception children walked through the playground and corridors, excited to show the older pupils their fantastic costumes. They also delighted everyone with a special performance of the World Book Day song they have been practising.
Later in the morning, Reception and Year 1 came together for a special shared story time. The children were joined by Mr Nightingale, visiting all the way from Year 6, who brought two much‑loved stories to life. First, he read The Colour Monster, a firm favourite among the children. He then followed with another treasured story, Whatever Next—a book that holds a special place in his heart, as it was read to him by his own mother when he was a little boy.
It was a wonderful day filled with imagination, storytelling, and a shared love of reading. The children made fantastic memories and celebrated the magic that books bring to our school community.
