Year 6 Gymnastics: Developing Skills Through Apparatus Work

Year 6 continued their gymnastics unit in PE, further developing the skills they have been building throughout the term. The focus of the lesson was the introduction of apparatus, offering pupils the chance to apply their learning in a more practical and challenging setting.
During the session, the children explored a range of travelling and balancing techniques, working thoughtfully to move confidently and safely across the equipment. They experimented with different ways to travel, climb, and balance, using their growing understanding of control, coordination, and body tension to support their movements.
Pupils showed enthusiasm and perseverance as they navigated the apparatus, adapting their ideas and trying increasingly ambitious sequences. Their creativity and teamwork were evident throughout, as they encouraged one another and shared strategies for improving technique.
Overall, it was a highly productive lesson, with Year 6 demonstrating both skill and maturity as they continued to strengthen their gymnastics abilities.
