To celebrate World Mental Health Day, Year 2 spent time learning about what mental health means and exploring ways to look after their own wellbeing. Through thoughtful discussions, the children discovered how emotions can change and shared ideas about how to care for their minds, just as they do their bodies.

The afternoon was dedicated to calm and reflective activities designed to help the children connect with their feelings. They enjoyed mindful colouring, relaxing yoga, and writing to express how they were feeling. These activities encouraged self-awareness and gave the children space to unwind and reflect.

Using the Zones of Regulation, the class also explored how to recognise different emotions and think about helpful strategies for moving between zones. This supported their understanding of emotional regulation and gave them practical tools to use in everyday life.

It was a calm and positive day, filled with kindness, reflection, and self-care. The children felt proud of how they looked after themselves and supported one another—an inspiring reminder of the importance of nurturing mental health from a young age.
